1. The first exercise that is effective in strengthening the deltoids and the supraspinatus, muscles in the shoulder, is lateral raises. To do this lift you will want to stand upright with your feet shoulder width apart and your knees slightly bent. You will want to have your arms hang in front of your body with a dumbbell in each hand, having the ends facing front to back.

You will now inhale while lifting your arms away from your body, using your shoulders, until the weight is at your shoulder height. If your body forms the letter “T” you have done the lift right. All you have to do now is lower the weight and you are done.

2. The next build shoulder muscle exercise is front raises. This is very similar to lateral raises with a couple of little changes. To do this lift you will need to stand upright your your feet at shoulder width apart and your knees slightly bent. You will now allow each of your hands to hang in front of your body, holding the dumbbell ends facing lateral. You will inhale and lift your arms out and away from the front of your body. Your arms should now be directly in front of your body. All you have to do now is lower the weight and you are done.

3. This next exercise works the trapezius muscles, a muscle in the shoulder, better than any other exercise you could do. The exercise is shoulder shrugs. To do this lift you will want to stand in an erect, relaxed position, holding the dumbbells at your side. You will want your shoulders to be rounded forward but sloping downward at the beginning of the movement. To begin the lift you will want to raise your shoulders as high as possible and then back as far as possible. Now you just need to lower the weight and then repeat the movement but forward and you are done.

Working on strengthening the shoulder muscles is a very important thing because of how many different daily things involve the shoulders. By doing these build shoulder muscle exercises you will be able to strengthen your shoulders effectively.

Your Core Muscles – The Holy Trinity

Walking is a core event. The core refers to three main muscle groups: The inner thighs, the pelvic floor and the abdominals. The psoas (our favorite muscle) is the main engine of walking and when it is properly toned and aligned it allows the body to move with the most efficiency and ease. Without balance and tone in our core the psoas won’t be free to function at its best.

The inner thighs, known as the adductors (there are five of them), tend to be weaker than the outer thighs and in almost all cases need to be awakened to their proper role in walking.

The pelvic floor, muscularly known as the levator ani (three muscles), is called upon to serve a different role in modern man than in our predecessors. Our shift from quadruped to biped has not been an easy one. If you think about four-legged animals, the pelvis is the back wall of the body so the abdominal wall supports the internal organs. As a result of standing upright, our pelvic floor has become responsible for holding up our organs. This shift in responsibility is well deserved of our attention.

The belly is made up of four abdominal muscles all of which need balanced tone to function properly as they are essentially connected through assorted structures of the inner body. The average person will have much more tone in one or another of these muscles for different reasons. Classically we are way too developed in the most surface of these muscles, the rectus abdominus – otherwise known as the six-pack.

Proper tone and balanced function in these groups allows for the correct alignment of the legs, pelvis and lumbar spine, which creates the best environment for housing the internal organs and freeing the psoas to work at its best. What Is Alcoholic Liver Disease?

Alcohol abuse leads to a condition known as alcoholic liver disease. The liver performs the important function of detoxification and that includes processing alcohol. Excessive consumption of alcohol is the leading cause of liver damage in the western world.

Factors that increase the risk for this condition include the average amount of alcohol consumed in a sitting over a period of time, drinking when not eating, gender, pre-existing conditions, etc. You don’t have to drink yourself silly every time to be a candidate for this condition. And not every alcoholic gets alcoholic liver disease. Diet and nutrition play an important role; if you have a healthy diet you can probably keep the condition at bay. Diagnosis of alcoholic liver disease is done through blood tests, scans, and if required liver biopsy.

Symptoms of the condition include dryness in the mouth, tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, jaundice, and fluid accumulation in the legs. The skin may turn dark or pale; motions may be tarry due to blood in them; bleeding gums; and giddiness are other symptoms.

Alcoholic liver disease progresses in stages. The first stage is characterized by the condition known as fatty liver, followed by alcoholic hepatitis, and then cirrhosis. One in four alcoholics suffering from a fatty liver may get cirrhosis.

Fatty liver – In this condition, there is an accumulation of fat in the cells of the liver. Fortunately, this condition is not irreversible. FLD can happen from a number of causes but the most common cause is alcohol abuse. The condition can often pass unnoticed or is diagnosed when liver diagnosis is carried out for some other purpose. Early detection can enable reversing of the steatosis. If left till later, there are chances that cirrhosis may lead to heptocellular carcinoma.

Alcoholic hepatitis – Four out of ten heavy drinkers get alcoholic hepatitis. The condition is characterized by the inflammation of the liver. The condition may or may not lead to cirrhosis but with heavy drinkers the chances of liver cirrhosis following this condition are quite high. Symptoms include liver enzyme elevation, fluid in the abdomen cavity, and jaundice.

Cirrhosis – This is an irreversible condition that occurs from sustained heavy drinking for more than ten years or so. The condition is graded A, B, C based on severity. The prognosis for “C” is poor. Treatment for cirrhosis consists of trying to prevent further damage to the liver and if required, liver transplant. Hepatitis vaccines are given and certain medications such as NSAIDs are discouraged. Alcohol, of course, is a strict no-no.

In general, the first thing to do when treating alcoholic liver disease is to give up alcohol and start with a healthy diet while avoid fatty foods. Diuretics are sometimes given to reduce ascites. Some treatment methods prescribe the use of anti-oxidants to minimize free radical damage.
